Eek! In just a few days, Jody and I will be boarding a flight for our long-awaited and eagerly dreamt about babymoon. We decided early on in this pregnancy that we wanted to prioritize setting aside time to take a trip – whether it be a staycation or a getaway – and focus on our relationship before our little one arrives. One of the biggest pieces of advice we’ve read, heard, and seen is still finding time for our spouse amid this very sweet life change and without him or her even being here, we can already see how they have now become the center of attention since October 11. 🙂
As much as we love to explore, we knew this trip needed to be a source of relaxation for us, not one where we come back more exhausted than when we left. After ruling out some all-inclusive resorts in the Caribbean and Florida, we landed on Scottsdale, Arizona, which happens to be a place neither of us has visited before – a perk! Aside from the long flight (I’ll have to let you know how that goes!), Scottsdale is full of resorts and does have some nearby adventuring, just in case we can’t sit still. Considering I’ll be at the beginning of my third trimester, I imagine most of our trip will include sipping frozen drinks in the pool!

Admittedly, I’m still trying to figure out how to dress my ever-changing body, so I have spent some serious effort considering what to pack for this trip. I’ll probably share more about this soon, but I have been trying to expand my closet with clothes that will work postpartum, not just ones that will get me through June. With that in mind, here’s a glimpse at what I’m packing for our trip!
Obviously, the aforementioned plan of spending most of our time at the pool requires bathing suits! I picked up this darling one-piece with a tie back and ruffle straps because I thought it would look cute with the bump, but would also work during the summer. I also couldn’t resist this crocheted bikini, which ties in the back, allowing for it to grow with me.
As for clothes, I’m quickly realizing that sundresses are my best friend. This babydoll dress is such an easy piece to throw on after a day at the pool, but can also be dressed up for a fancier dinner out. I also ordered a few fitted dresses to show off the bump (is it even a babymoon if you don’t own your bump?!) that I’m anxiously waiting for. Since my denim shorts clearly won’t make the cut, I did pick up a pair of maternity shorts on clearance over the weekend. I can’t say they will be my favorite shorts, but it is nice to have a pair to wear as the weather warms. And of course, the trip wouldn’t be complete without a pair of sandals (similar) and my new favorite sneakers.
I will also be packing my casual leggings for the plane ride, as well as my athletic ones, in case we end up venturing to one of the nearby trails. Saguero National Park is within driving distance of Scottsdale, and the adventurer in me is itching to add that to our itinerary! 🙂
Y’all have seen this bag on here before but I’m thinking this will make the perfect carry-on turned pool bag that I can fill with sunscreen, after-sun lotion, and books – I’m packing this one and this one! I figured a hat will be a pain to pack and I haven’t found one I love just yet, other than this one from Amazon, so it will just give me an excuse to shop once we arrive!
One of the reasons we picked Scottsdale was because of the weather, and I cannot express how much I’m looking forward to sitting in the warm sunshine, rather than the rainy, pollen-filled weather that is expected in Maryland. But even more than that, I’m looking forward to spending some much-needed time with Jody, where we (read: I), will try not to talk only about strollers. If you have any specific recommendations of where we should eat, or anything that is a must-do while in Scottsdale, I’d love to hear!
