Friday Favorites

Happy Friday and Halloween weekend! It is a dreary day here on the east coast with the second nor’easter in a week getting ready to blow through, but I admit, it does add to the aesthetic of a cool, foggy, spooky weekend. We have a relatively chill weekend planned – friend time, passing our candy for our neighborhood’s Trick-or-Treat, and watching more Halloween movies! While I wouldn’t say Halloween is my favorite day of the year, I can’t pass up an opportunity for a little themed celebration. Plus, as I was mentioning to Jody this morning, Halloween is the last big thing before our favorite time of the year – Thanksgiving and Christmas!

As eager as I am for the holidays, I will be slightly sad to see October go. We have had such a great month, filled with fun fall activities, as well as some great new finds! Here’s a glimpse of some of my favorites from the past month:

New Coffee Table: I saw this coffee table while browsing through Tuesday Morning a couple of weeks ago with my mom. We weren’t particularly in the market for a new table, but I actually was looking for some new decor to update our current table’s look. After getting home, I mentioned in passing that I found a table I kind of like, and he was all for getting it, however, we were getting ready to head out of town for the weekend, so I figured there was no chance the table would still be there when we returned. I had Jody swing through the store the following week “just in case”, and lo and behold, the table was still there. It was clearly meant to be and we are loving it in our living room!

Shacket, Flacket, or Placket: I mentioned before that this trend of the “shirt jacket” this year was something I was very much a fan of this year, so you can imagine my joy when I stumbled upon this pullover at Marshalls! It is the perfect extra layer in the fall, and it came in handy during our camping trips. Despite not knowing what to call it – shacket (shirt jacket), flacket (flannel jacket), or placket (pullover jacket) – it may rank among one of my favorite finds this fall.

NFL Sunday: If you didn’t know, I am a huge football fan. My dad coached football for most of my childhood, and I grew up going to scout high school football games across the state so naturally, I grew to love the game. Being that my mom is from western Pennsylvania, we have been fans of the Pittsburgh Steelers for as long as I can remember. We’ve always talked about going to a game at Heinz Field, and this year, we decided to make that dream a reality.

We purchased tickets for the October 17 game against the Seattle Seahawks, and made a weekend out of it. We spent most of Saturday exploring the different neighborhoods of Pittsburgh, filling up on our favorite Yinzer food (ahem, pirogies), before prepping for Sunday’s game. On game day, we headed downtown early to stop at (all!) of the Pittsburgh merchandise stores, and eat before making our way to Heinz Field. Our experience at the game was incredible. To be surrounded by Steelers fans, all exuding the same level of energy into each play, and the waving terrible towels made this Steelers-loving-girl’s heart so full. If you watched that game, you might remember it was a low scoring, overtime game, ending in a much needed Steelers win!

Sautéed Chicken with Lemon-Caper Sauce: Admittedly, this is a late add to this month’s round up. I have been meaning to try this recipe for several weeks, but never did until dinner last night. I found the recipe on WW, and it is one of the “Under 30 Minute” meals, ideal for a busy night. It was so light and flavorful! I served it over mini farfalle pasta, which perfectly complimented the lemon-caper sauce.

Our Sweet Kittens: I know this favorite is a bit off of regular programming, but tomorrow marks one year since we brought Mila and Miles home! They are the most entertaining, full of personality little fur balls and they have been the best addition to our little family.

I hope y’all have a fantastic weekend full of so many sweet treats! Happy Halloween!

  1. I love a delicious lemon-caper sauce pasta. The Cheesecake Factory’s chicken piccata is one of my faves! And I’ve never been a big football fan, but I’ve been learning a lot this year since my boyfriend is part of a fantasy league.
