Home Tour: Move-In Day

I love following along with bloggers who share their process of updating their homes, not just the “Pinterest perfect” finished project. As we moved into our home, we luckily did not have many projects that needed to immediately be completed. While I’m tempted to want every room complete and perfectly decorated, I truly love the decorating process and am reminded that these things take time. I’m sure I’ll share more as we progress further through the house, but for now, I’ll share a full home tour, starting with the day we moved in!

First things first, a picture outside our front door, before we walked into the house for the first time as homeowners. 🙂

The front room, which we also call the sitting room, is on your right when you walk inside. We honestly aren’t sure what this room will eventually turn in, but for now, our plan is to have it as a sitting area for guests, or a reading nook!

On the left of the door is our downstairs bath and coat closet. Much to our delight, the previous owners left the mirror in the bathroom, which I just love! Just past those two doors is our dining room. We plan to have this area to be our more formal dining and entertaining area, especially since our current table can expand to full with more people! This half-wall opens to the back of the house, which is where our living room, kitchen, and stairs are located!

To the left, is our living room and to the right, is the kitchen. The sliding glass door in the middle leads to our back patio and yard. We plan to really focus on this section of the house in the spring, but for now, our bench and table set that we had at our apartment will do. We’ve since added a brand new grill – the first purchase for our new house!

Heading back inside, we have a furnished kitchen! I can’t tell you how grateful I am that all of the appliances came with the house. While we plan to upgrade the refrigerator and dishwasher, I couldn’t love our oven and microwave more. I also cannot get enough of all of the counter space, cabinets, and I mean, look at that backsplash! All of the heart eyes. We’ve since purchased and built a kitchen island to add to our storage and counter space (seen in the boxes on the floor in the picture!).

There is an additional light fixture over where we will have another, smaller dining table to create a little dining nook since most meals will just be Jody and I. On the wall opposite of the glass door, is our mudroom, which includes our washing machine and dryer. That room also leads to the garage, Jody’s favorite space in the house.

Back in the kitchen, we head towards the living room to reach our staircase to the second floor. When we initially toured the house for the first time, I thought it was so weird that the staircase was in the back of the house, versus being near the front door. Now that we’ve been here for two months, I think our first floor seems more open without a set of stairs right when you walk in. Our stairs twist up the center of the house to reach the upstairs hallway. When you get to the top, the first room on your left is what will be my home office, since I occasionally work from home.

The next room on the left is our guest room — we can’t express how excited we are to be able to provide a real bed and separate room for our guests to stay in when visiting. This is also the room where Jody and I slept (on an air mattress nonetheless!) during our first week in the house. It has a great view of the sunrise since the front of our house faces the east. I also love how this room is tucked in the corner — it is so cute!

Continuing on, wedged in between the front and back of the second floor is the hall guest bathroom. Again, words can’t begin to tell how grateful we are for not one, two but three bathrooms in this house.

Overlooking the backyard is our master bedroom. Complete with a ceiling fan, walk-in closet, and attached master bath (bathroom #3!), I don’t think we could have made out better. After we moved all of our old bedroom furniture in, and the room still feels big! We plan to update our furniture in the future and eventually paint the walls. Thankfully, our bedding is grey and white, so nothing clashes. Our master bath may be another “How did we get so lucky” kind of room. Featuring a double sink, tons of storage space, and a huge linen closet, there is plenty of space for both of us to get ready for our days.

Within 48 hours of receiving the keys, we tackled our first project of painting the walls. Picking a paint color after only being in the house for a few hours was challenging, but we ended up going with Sherwin Williams Agreeable Gray. It took 14 straight hours for my mom and I to paint the entire downstairs but it was SO worth it. It feels like a completely different space!

Considering the approaching holidays and busy fall, we decided to focus on one room at a time, starting with the room where we plan to spend most of our time — the living room. We ordered a new couch, an expensive we have been eagerly looking forward to for quite some time. We love the look of sectionals and they create a more relaxed and welcoming environment, which is exactly how we hope for our home to feel. I since found this coffee table at Target, and then added this rug. We are planning to upgrade our TV this Black Friday, so once we have that, this space will be complete!
